Syrah grapes

On one of our first visits to the Livermore Valley area, we stopped at this winery -- and have made it a practice to go back every time we're in the area. Delightful wines.

Tasting hours: Daily 11:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Listed wines and/or vintages may no longer be available. Contact the winery for the most recent releases.

Stampmaker White
A Rhone-style blend with 53% Viognier. Lots of tropical fruits in the nose and mouth. Refreshing wine.

2002 Viognier
This wine had the sweetness of white peaches and nectarines in the aroma, yet a crisp, sharp fruitiness in the mouth. A touch of pear on the finish.

2000 Red Assemblage
This is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. We discerned black cherries and blackberries in the aroma with ripe cherries in the taste. Just a slight hint of licorice in the finish.

2001 Merlot
We noticed a light cherry scent in the aroma with a more pronounced cherry taste. Medium tannins give this wine aging potential.

2000 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve
Ripe berries in the nose (one of us even picked up a slight whiff of cola). Cherries and berries in the mouth and a very fruity finish that continued to build.

2000 Petite Sirah Reserve

A spicy aroma of raspberries and black pepper. Black cherries in the taste. A nice mouth feel and a lingering finish. Two-three years of aging will bring out the flavors.

2001 Gewürztraminer
Slightly drier than normal for this type of wine, it has a clean, fresh, light sweetness in the mouth. Would be great with poultry dishes or even just sipping on the patio.

2003 Muscat Canelli
Peaches and pears with a hint of ripe table grapes in the nose. A full mouth flavor that produced a zesty sensation. This wine would be excellent with spicy foods.

1997 Late Harvest Viognier
We noticed honey in the aroma and taste. Creamy mouth feel. Not overpoweringly sweet. Would be good with cheesecake.

1998 Late Harvest Johannisberg Riesling
Figs and dates in the nose. Full-flavored creaminess in the mouth. Honey in the finish. Serving suggestion: peach cobbler.

Other wines produced by this winery include: Sauvignon Blanc, Assemblage White, and Stampmaker's Red.
